Syncing your vm carbs cable/cables…1st remove air filters, look in and make sure you can see the cut out if not your slides are in the wrong carb.( It has happen)
Turn you adjusting hex screws on top of the carbs all the way in to start. Turn the cable length screw on the throttle end in.
Turn you throttle open and with your other hand put your finger on the bottom of the slide as you continue to open your throttle, continue until the bottom of the slide reaches the top of the opening in the carb. You can feel it with the finger. With the throttle still at that position check the other carb, they should match.
If nether slides reaches that positon at the top of the cut out you need to adjust the length of you cable at the throttle end.
If only one reaches adjust the side that doesn’t by turning the hex screw on top of that carb. Once they match tighten the locking nut. See pictures below.
Next at the cable length adjustment take the slack out of the throttle, or some like to leave just a touch.
With that done adjust so the slides start to open at the same time, I like to put at least a 3/16” drill bit under each slide and adjust the idle screw to just make contact, I use my left hand with middle finger on one slide and thumb on the other, or finger on the left carb and view the right on, whatever works for you, just so you can see and/or feel that what you turn the throttle they both start to move at the same time. From now on whenever you turn the one idle screw match it with the other. You may have to adjust the idle over from time to time as you jet the carbs but in the end they have to open at the same time.
After the cable is set, turn your air/mixing screw in and until it slightly seats and then back out 1 turns. Good starting place.
Start the bike if idles high turn idle screw in equal amounts on both sides until it is around 1200 rpm, some like lower.
If it will not idle turn both side in until it will idle on its own.
This should get you started.
